Running Rich
Running Rich
Hi Guys:
I’m new to the site. I have a 95 z28 (v8). I have a hose leak – it’s the hose coming from the left side of the water pump as you face the front of the car – it runs all the way back I tried cutting the hose and clamping but didn't work all the way. And the engine runs rich (failed emissions) – my guess is the 02 sensors. Also the SES light comes on about 2 minutes after starting the car and them sporadically after that. I just put in a new water pump and a coolant sensor. My guess is there maybe hot spots in the radiator or the engine because of the leak. Gas mileage is horrible .

Have you scanned it for codes? That would be the first step toward solving the problem. Since your 95 has an OBD-I PCM, but uses a 16-pin OBD-II style ALDL connector, it can be very hard to get your car scanned by anyone not completely familiar with the oddball 95's. Shoebox has a photo, showing how to connect an OBD-I scanner with a 12-pin connector, to the 16-pin 95 connector:

Running rich may be the result of a "real" rich problem.... example - excessive fuel pressure, or it may be the result of a "false lean", typically caused by an exhaust leak before the O2 sensors, misfires or faulty O2 sensors or wiring.
