running my 2buy list by...

Im making a list of stuff to buy before I put my camaro back on the road this year and I just wanted to run it by you guys to see if you had any feedback or recomendations and to make sure im not forgetting anything. I had ben planning on LE2's and some more supporting mods but with the way gas prices are going im just gonna go the cam only route, before I get any further heres what I've got so far: 96'Z M6 3.42's soon to be 3.73's, pacesetter mid's, cat, borla c/b, 6AL w/ 6k peg, LS1 ds, LT4 km, 160t-stat, becool radiator, centerforce df clutch and a morroso CAI that's almost always off cause it doesnt quite fit.. for a cam I've ben considering the crane 227 even though its a baby cam imo but for cam only power it sounds like its a good choice. does anyone know where I can find it for under $360 though? now my spare pair of LT1 heads I picked up came with 2.00/1.56 valves and comp 918 springs but im unsure about how many miles are on the springs, so what should I do here? Im working on a limited budget but I'll follow your guys advice, if I need new springs, I need new springs. I figure I’ll get some scorpion 1.7rr to add a little more lift, NSA is the best way to go right? Then I’ll also need some moly pushrods, just double checking 7.2” is what I need. Anyone know how much LS7 lifters are and their PN? I figure I’l go with them unless CC or crane’s are cheaper. And what should I do about the timming chain? Whats a good set that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg?? Im sticking with stock replacements for the opti and h2o pump, the small gain from an e-pump doesn’t seem worth the price and def cant be as reliable so.. and eventually this summer I'l order a ASM CAI which looks like it should fit properly and also get a mail order tune from madz28. plus I'l need to geta different peg for my 6AL
-Cam swap cost breakdown-
Crane 227- $360!!! anyone know where to get it cheaper?
CC 918’s- $180 if needed
scorpion 1.7rr- $213
Moly 7.2” PR’s- $133
GMPP guideplates- $36
LS7 lifters- $
Timming chain- $
Opti- $300
Water pump- $208
gaskets- $
Yikes so far im already @ $1420 + lifters, timing chain & seals. anyone know where I can get any of this stuff cheaper post it up or PM a link if you shouldn’t and which sponsor carries those fel-pro gasket kits? I hate piecing everything together plus it should be cheaper if I buy them all together. I’m gonna order all the GM stuff through jason cromer if hes still around so I should save a few bucks there and I might even end up doing this in 2 separate stages depending on how impatiant I get, def horny to drive it right now. thoughts on all this?
and for the hell of it..what kind of numbers do you guys think I'll be seeing?
thanks!

Iv been told NSA rockers are the way to go.
Have you thought about going with 4.10's instead of 3.73's since you have a 6 speed?
I believe 7.2 is stock push rod lenght, not sure if you will need a different size due to the cam being changed or not.

i youre not messing with the heads then the 7.2 pushrods are the correct length. also i wouldnt do the 1.7 rockers. people are making good power with the 227 and 1.6's especially for it being such a small cam. thunderracing has a cam swap gasket kit for something like 180. I believe they are all gm gaskets but not positive. self aligning rockers are good for about 6300 rpm but not much more. i dont think you need to spin it that high for the 227 to make peak power but then again i dont know where it peaks.

If your not trying to spend too much, I would drop the be cool, and the MSD 6al. That in itself would give you extra cash for the install, or the heads if you decided to go that way.
If your staying with stock H2o pump, then you can only go with stock set or extreme duty set.

IMO the MSD boxes really are only good for the extras. (rev limit and retard) I had a digital 6 but didn't see much of an improvement over stock ignition.

While I think the becool is a good rad, why dont you think your stock will be ok?

MSD, becool, etc etc are the mods I already have. I didnt realize the stock water pump limits my options withe the timing set tho,, does the extreme duty set come with the right kind of sprocket? or do I have to buy the correct one seperately?

well I think I found a price on the LS7 lifters, the site had it posted as "price/ea" but its got to be for a whole set -$130?
extreme duty timing chain- $330
brings the total to $1880 + gaskets im looking @ over $2000
227 + 1.6rr is pretty proven, but my spare heads have upgraded valves so wouldn't it benefit from a tad more lift? int is only .479" and im pretty sure the cam peaks at 6300 so im gonna go w/ NSA to play it safe. and what about the springs? would you guys get new ones? 4.10's is a bit much, im trying to keep this thing from guzzling to much gas, I was gonna delete the smog equipment too but I think I'l keep it all with $4/gal gas and climbing...and my camaro aint even on the road yet

im pretty sure the .479 lift is advertised with 1.5 rockers. 1.6 rockers make it roughly .524 and 1.7 make it .556. But the 918's should be good for all the lift ranges.

The ED set is a just that, a set. You will get the crank and cam sprockets along with chain.
