Running LPPs, of course fitment issues

So I'm doing a top end build and wanted to replace my rusty Pacesetters with LPPs. I know the first batch had its own set of issues and we don't really need to get into that here. I have a set of LTs from their second batch. Everything seems ok except for the oil filter. One of the primaries comes up and makes putting in any oil filter near impossible. The only way to make the ACDelco pf454 filter fit is to remove the oil cooler. I don't really want to do this. So I am asking what solutions other LPP people have done or what others think. I know one possibility is to run a remote oil cooler, but everyone I know who has done that has had oil leak problems. The motor has not been in the car yet so i may have more issues later.

I know that LPP made it abundantly clear in the long LPP header thread on LS1tech.com that the oil cooler had to be deleted. Your only other option like you said is to run a remote oil filter.

Out of curiosity, why don't you want to remove the oil cooler? It's more of a hassle than a benefit. Most people are happy to get rid of them.

Not sure, I just feel uncomfortable about removing something the engineers put there for some sort of reason. I'm gonna run it the rest of the season sans oil cooler. At least the headers won't rust out!

If it was so important, why did they drop it after the 95 model year? Don't worry about it.

Yeah, you have to wonder, since the same engineers removed it.

I must be the only person on this board who still has his factory oil cooler intact.... .

And its not reducing my oil pressure by 10psi.....

I was wondering the same thing about installing the LPP my Z... but mine is a '96. So I can safely assume my '96 doesn't have one?? I don't have it at the house to double check or I'd just go look.
