running hot!!! what could possibly be wrong now

i finally got 500 miles on my car so i went back and readjusted the valves and changed the oil. i went to mobil 1 10w30 and a quart of lucas. i was on the way to church and it just ran hot. so i pulled over to make sure my water pump was still working and the fuse and relay checked out ok and i could hear it running. i took the thermostat out and put the water back in and its still heating up but not as bad. will a lt1 run cool without a stat like older cars? could the stat be my problem. or does it have something to do with the synthetic oil? lol

You Need the Stat for proper coolant flow. A couple of questions, did you purge the system? If not that is probably tour problem. Are you sure you have the correct T-Stat for a LT1?

Just a tip, when ever I pull the T-Stat housing, I fill the water pump housing using a cup untill it is full, this seems to help eliminate most of the air, then once it is all back togeather and the car is up to operating temp I use the purge screw to get the rest of the air out.

yeah, if you took the thermostat out and added water, you probably need to bleed the air out of the system now

i think maybe the water pump must have been turning on and off or something. or maybe the fans werent coming on. when i went back to get my car this evening i noticed i was having electrical problems or something. i was getting all kind of codes and when i turned my lights on, low beam with fog lights, all of them were on and only one fog light. the bright lights were really dim tho. and when i turned the fog light switch off the other fog light came on and one of the headlights turned off. my left signal is staying lit on the dash as well as the light itself. anyone have any idea as what wire to look for or know where i can find some wiring diagrams?
