Talking running a 96 lt1 on the pane'

ok, so i got an lt1 for a steal of a deal , have the computer but no harness. It's a 96 out of a 9c1 caprice. I can go two ways with this setup, actually 3.

ITS FOR A 4X4

1- Run the fuel injection, get a painless harness BUT.....what about the optispark system? It can't deal with water at all from what i've heard. The harness will be $500 roughly and then, and then and then it'll add up fast i'm sure.

2-Run it carbeurated, the manifold is $190 but it is a square bore. What kind of cheap and good carbs can i pop on this puppy.

3-Run it on propane, i want to do this, can this engine handle the pane', i'm assuming not for very long, hardened valve seats? any knowledgable people know? I have seen pictures of a 9c1 caprice running an lt1 on propane so i know it has been done.

The rigs going to have a snorkle incase that affects any ones suggestions and its all going into a 56 landrover with a sm465 and np205

thanks

my intro to this motor was in a friends 94 ss camaro, i think it has the aluminum heads which mine don't.

also any advice on the most bang for your buck bottom end powerband enhancers?

if you are going to do allot of wheeling, go fuel injected, due to the fact that most carboators flood out at exteme angles associated with wheelin' dunno about propane though....

ok so i obviously want to go injected but.... how can i solve the water/opti issue. Can you seal the opti air tight or maybe run a vent hose into my snokle?

What have people done when their opti gets moisture in it or does that equal its ****ed and time to replace?

Honestly, for your pourposes, you have the worst motor possible. I don't htink it's possible to make an opti water proof enough for serious off roading. You could seal it to the hilt, but I don't know if I'd ever trust it. And if water does get in it, you'll have to tear the front off the engine on the trail just to dry it out. A Delteq or LTCC kit would help, but probably not totaly cure the problem.

I love my LT1, but I woulldn't put it in a serious 4X4.

I agree, an LT1 is a ton of fun but the ignition system probably wont like being sunk in mud and water. If your putting a snorkel on it I have to belive you plan to go in pretty deep. You could convert to another ignition system but I think it would be easier using a TBI/TPI motor.

I dont know anyone who has run an LT1 on Propane. I gotta ask why would you want to? Propane will reduce your HP by at least 1/3 but probably closer to 1/2 of the stock 285hp...

You would be better off using someting else.
