Smile RPO codes

Anyone know where on the RPO code list the info for the stock rear end setup would be? and what numbers would it consist of for which rear end setups (I.E: 3.08, 3.23, 3.42, 3.73, etc...) im trying to estimate what the original ones were, so i can get a better idea of whats on it now... anyone have that info?

Re: RPO codes

Your RPO codes are on a sticker in the glovebox. The GU code tells the rear end ratio.

Since it seems your are search challenged:

GU2 : AXLE REAR, 2.73 RATIO

GU4 : AXLE REAR, 3.08 RATIO (V6)

GU5 : AXLE REAR, 3.23 RATIO

GU6 : AXLE REAR, 3.42 RATIO

Re: RPO codes

well... i found out my rear end was stock a GU2... so it was a 2.73.... which sucks ***!!!! cuz now i may only have 3.23... but many people suggested a higher number... like 3.42... because of its performance... DAMMIT!!! well hey.. at least i know its got more get up n go than most autos

Re: RPO codes

you came off kinda insulting man... sorry if i retorted a bit harsh... but it sounded like you were telling me that there was no way my car has upgraded gears.... and i know it does.. the rear end is not stock, all my speedo hardware is in tact, and the ECM throws no codes... so there is only one possibility for why my speedo and odometer is 2/10s of a mile fast...... and thats because my rear end gearing is raised... unless there is another reason for why it would be like that... and why my 2.73s can take a mildly modded LT1 SS... you tell me.. because there is no other explaination i can think of

Re: RPO codes

yeah but he had a 6 speed, and he came up from behind me on the freeway doing about 20 MPH faster than i was... so i punched it and leveled with him, then continued to about 135mph (estimated by calculating the mph shown minus the difference in gearing) and i was about 2 car lengths ahead of him... i slapped it in neutral, barked at him at around 4500 rpms, and watched him pass me with his middle finger held high it was a special moment for me.... LOL i dont know if i would have taken him from a stop, but i think i would have, cuz i started off at 65 MPH... he was probably already doing 80 or so.... so i dont know... he shoulda won, but he didnt... *shrug* i know my gears arent stock... as i said before, ive driven auto Z28s of my year and they are NOTHING special... the gearing/hp ratio sucks.... no off the line pull at all... this car? slams you back in the seat....

Re: RPO codes

ive said it before and ill say it again... the list of crap i have in my sig line? is just a list of what i know is there... aside from the gears which are now questionable... either 3.23s or 3.42s... im not sure, but i know it is not stock... but who knows? maybe there is something i cant see... the motor and tranny have both been replaced... im sure of that... but what else is in it? that.. im not sure of....

Re: RPO codes

2.73 rear gears do not mean the car is slow by any means. If you want to know what you have now, jack up the whole rear and spin the tires one revolution while counting the number of times the driveshaft turns.

Re: RPO codes

Why are you bothering us about RPO codes if you "know" it doesnt have stock gears?? If you know so much your going to have troubles getting assistance...some of your comments come off as insulting and I doubt many people will help you out if you act that way. You cant race other cars to figure out what gears you have.. you need to do what shoebox suggested. Good luck..and keep in mind...it pays to be humble here.

Re: RPO codes

ive tried humility... and i got insult in return... however? i meant no insult by anything i said in this thread... sorry if it came off like that... but i just wanted to know for the hell of it what kinda gears my car had stock... so i could estimate my current gears better, as well as be able to tell people what i had in it stock... you know? just to be more knowledgable about my car.... and as for the spinning the tires thing? ive tried it... and i get slightly different results all the time... some times its just a little more than 3 full turns... others? almost 3 1/2.... so i know its not all that accurate... im gonna have to count the teeth i guess....
