Angry Rough Idleing

Hey guys,

I have been chasing down some oil leaks and tore apart the intake to put new gaskets and new rtv on the front and rear.. when i got everything back together i noticed i had a couple vacuum lines in wrong spot so swapped those around and started it up...

fires right up but wont idle... give gas spits and sputters then finally dies...

so i looked around some more and cant figure anythig out...

so i disconnected the maf and it started and idles around 3k and when i plug it back in it dies... startes back up but rough then die..


so im assuming that the maf is either dirty or bad.. but ran fine before i took anything apart..

what do you guys think??

Sounds like the maf sensor is either dirty or damaged. You can test it and also a good cleaning would help. Do you have a check engine light on?

Still sounds like a vacuum leak, or air bypassing the MAF.

Without the MAF sensor connected, it's running in speed-density. That allows the PCM to get the correct mass air flow, based on inlet air temp and manifold absolute pressure. MAP would reflect a vacuum leak, or air bypassing the MAF. If the PCM is relying on the MAF sensor, it's not going to see all the air that is bypassing the sensor. Might even want to check for a torn intake elbow, or the elbow not being fully seated over the bottom of the throttle body.

does anyone have a few pictures of the vacuum lines connecting to the intake? im about 95% sure they are correct but wanted to double check

Did you check Shoebox's website - plenty of pictures? While his Camaro is a 95, there aren't many differences in 96. Main difference would be the 96/97 addition of a vacuum detection switch for the EVAP purge system:

There is also a sticker under the hood that shows all the vacuum line routing.

OP

also confirm you didn't plug the injectors in wrong.

shoebox site is full of great 411.

taking a few pics "before" and labeling various connectors, hoses, etc is always a good idea so on re-assembly you get everything back where it is supposed to be
