Question rough idle but smooth running??????

I cant figure this out guys. My car idles rough but as soon as I give it some gas everything is GREAT!!! I dont know what to check, could that be my IAC valve??? It isnt a solid rough idle, its kinda intermitant (spelling??). Any ideas would be great. Thanks again.

put a scanner on there and watch the iac. you are really in the dark till you can see what everything is doing. watch to see what the ecm is commanding the iac to do, and what it is actually doing.

Your IAC could be dirty; it can be gently cleaned with a soft brush and clean the TB passage with some brake cleaner. You could also have a small vacuum leak causing the idle to be rough. I'd also verify your fuel pressure at idle.

Ummm UH OH, I used a brass brush to clean my IAC the last time I had the TB apart to clean it. Is that a chance I could have damaged it?? It was a soft brass brush though and I didnt push hard on it at all. Also, how else can you check for vaccum leaks, I heard a guy on here once talk about using a propane torch and without lighting it blowing propane around the intake and all possible vaccum leak areas, I did that and found nothing.

The IAC valve is fragile so depending on how gentle/rough you were that could be your problem. As far a vacuum leaks, I use a vacuum gauge hooked directly to the intake manifold and cap off the the manifold ports one by one and look for a change in vacuum (while the engine is running). If you don't have a gauge, you could still cap them off and look for your idle to smooth out.

It could be as simple as a vacumn leak also. Pull a vacumn line off. If it does not get a lot rougher, you have a vacumn leak.
