You can get some decent rods for 300. Don't re-use the stockers. Also don't skip anything in the valvetrain. As for the cam there are plenty of guys who drive cars with a 306 in them. Yea there will be some surge down low but as long as its around 2k you'll be fine. Having your heads done by L.E. is a good idea.
