Roller Rockers, is this the normal sound?
I just finished up the cam, heads, headers, roller rockers EARLY Tuesday morning. This is what the CC Pro Magnum SA 1.6 rockers sound like RR Noises There is a little ticky ticky noise, but no clackity clack noises
Is this normal or might they be a bit loose? I set them to 1/2 turn past zero lash using the no.1 TDC and no.6 TDC method.
The car does get up and boogity, boogity, boogity now! Oh jeesh I can't believe I said that

The microphone does pick up a lot of extra noise so it's kind of difficult to tell from the video exactly what is coming from the rocker arms.
For my peace of mind I suppose I should pull the covers and adjust the rockers with the engine running
I did double check and sometimes triple check to make sure I had the machined area for the rocker nut up.

today I went out and bought the gold 1.6 rollers and threw them on and you should hear the ticking but very little and yes if the valves are adjusted properly you will feel a slight improvement just while the motor is running loosen the nut until it starts to clack (you might have to take the socket off to hear it totally) then slowly tighten until it stops clacking, then either 1/2 turn or 3/4 depending on preference. do one valve at a time obviously and it should be golden!!
they should tick but clacking is bad. just start the car with the valve covers off. back one off till it clacks and then slowly tighten it till the clack goes away.. proceed with another 1/2 turn and lock her down! do this for the rest of them. they are hard to hear with all the other noise but just take your time and listen... its not too bad.
I hear about people doing it with the motor running. Seems like the easiest way to do it. Is thier a problem with oil leaking out on the headers? I guess this would sux if you had OVC wires though.

OK, I've done one side and it is very hard to hear when the rocker starts to clack. Most of them I backed off about 1/2 turn, and at that point you could feel that most resistance between the nut and rocker was gone, this is the point where the rockers started to clack. So I basically ended up back to where I was to start with.

ive done it this way on a couple cars and it works fine. you could also start at TDC and do half of them then go another 360 and do the other half but that takes a while and the lifters tend to bleed down but it works and you can spend more time feeling the valve lash. you can find the procedure in any manual like chiltons.

I went back and adjusted the even cylinder bank for a 3rd time . This time I did it with the engine off and went 1/2 turn past zero lash. Along with tightening up the Y-pipe to the headers a bit more and putting a nut on the long alternator bolt
things are little quieter now.
I find that setting the rockers while the engine is not running to be easier and more accurate, for me anyway. My wife does think I'm better with my hands than I am at listening.
