Roller Rockers

Hello all. Just got my 1995 Camaro z28 running after my fresh rebuild/cam swap. The car currently has SA Crane Gold 1.6RR. The problem with them is on the bottom of the roller, some of the rockers rub against the spring retainers.

My question is..Is there a particular reason for this? Something not done right?

Or should I just change rockers all together? If that's the case, what are some good SA rockers?

Thanks.

Sorry to hear/read this news after all your hard work.
U have my sympathy,

I can't really send them back, can I? These are the rockers that came with the car when I had it that the owner before the previous owner had put on.

It's not really a big deal. They still work, and I don't really think I can get the grinder out and do anything to fix the problem. My father says he doesn't like them and thinks it's going to cause an issue later on. Me on the other hand, I don't think it will.

I was just wondering if their were better rockers out there. I'm in it for longevity.

What kind of springs and retainers are installed on the heads?

Re: Roller Rockers

I had that happen with the Crane 10308 spring kit and Crane SA 1.6 rockers. I was changing things by the time I noticed it, so I never resolved the problem.

Re: Roller Rockers

I had the same issue when I went to a 1.55" spring diameter. Really chewed them up by the time I noticed. You can switch to some CC Beehive springs to get some clearance or you can swap your rockers for some CC Ultra Promags and sell your current Crane rockers to defray some of the expense.

If you go to the Beehives, you 'can' change the springs while the engine is in the car/heads on. I've done it and so have others. You just have to put the piston at TDC or you can apply air pressure to the cylinder to keep the valves up.

Re: Roller Rockers

Thanks for all the information. Sorry I couldn't get on and respond sooner. Work, lol.

But yes, some of the rockers touch the retainer. The car has CM612 valve springs, titanium retainers and 10 degree locks. Valve geometry is good.

Looked at it a yesterday and found the problem. I know the problem is with the valves, as some of the tops sit lower then the others. I have no idea... It's not much lower, but you can tell the difference if you get eye level.

I may end up going NSA with guide plates. What are my options for NSA rockers?

I just need the car to last until the end of this summer. Then it's getting tore down, forged, stroked, and sprayed.

I went with scorpion 1.6RR SA and i know a bunch of others that have also. But DirtyDaveW has a nasty camaro and if he says the cc ultra pro mags work then id go with them if your gonna build more power in the long run.

Hahaha.. Hey Zach! Sorry I didn't get a chance to visit with you after that last pass. The lightning and rain jumped on us pretty quick after I got off the return road.
Zach, If you got the scorpions to work for you (OP, request the narrow body scorpions if you go that route. The 'normal' width ones didn't work for me) then there's probably a cost benefit. Not sure but OP can check the prices.
Thanks for the recommendation Zach.
