Roller rocker install; Adjusting clack out with valve covers off

I am tring to finish my crane gold 1.6 install. With the car on the and the valve covers off they clack alot and car runs a little ruff. How DO YOU Adjust the rockers to get the clack out of them. Do you take the center bolt out then tighten down the outside then replace the center bolt and move on to the next???????

no need to take the lock bolt out, just back it out so that it is not touching. sounds like you have some adj. too tight, and some too loose. there will always be some noise though I figured out on a buddies car when trying to adj. his. with the eng. running, and one valve cover off, you can adj. them one at a time. very slowly loosen the first rocker untill you hear it get louger. let it settle for a second, then very slowly tighten it till that clack goes away, then turn the wrench half turn for the preload. hold that adj. nut and tighten the lock bolt and move on to the next one. this will smoke like crazy while the oil splashes on the headers in small speckles and possibly dribble out the back of the head since the valve cover is not on. so do this outside, hopefully in some wind. and set up a drip trey under the car to catch any oil that makes it past the headers. its not as bad as it sounds, but exp. some smoke.

Do what he said but take some cardboard and cut it the length of the head and about 6-8 inches high and place it between the springs and the edge of the head. Keeps oil from spashing everywhere

I just did mine, and couldn't find anything to keep the oil from splashing, so I said to hell with it and just adjusted without anything, and no oil splashed anywhere, maybe I was lucky, I saw it pool towards the edges but no splashing

do what they said by adjusting them with the other vavle cover on its the easiest way.keep in mind roller rockers just make more noise than the stockers.

The little irritating "Ticky Ticky"will be there. the LT4 vavle covers will quiet them down alot but you will still notice them when the hood is popped with the stock vavle covers on.

Loosen one till it clatters loudly, then tighten slowly until the clattering stops, then give it another 1/4 turn and tighten up the lock nut.

Then do that 15 more times.

Let's see if my memory is working this morning...
A little beyond the 1/4 turn shifts the powerband up slightly, a little less shifts it down slightly. We're talking maybe a couple hundred rpm on a good day.
That's mostly good for very fine adjustments once the motor is basically dialed in. Say for instance if you'd like a teeny bit less power on launch, for hook-up purposes.

I always do 1/8 turn past Zero lash and then tighten the lock down.

The looser you can set it without noise the better off you are.
