rod hitting bottom of oil pan with dent. Should i be worried?

Ok my oil pan has a dent in it. How we didnt see it before tottally gets me but we are taking the pan off tomorrow and beating it out so there is no problem and we havent ran it at all hardely. maybe a total of 10 minutes total since ive had the motor in. We couldnt hear the tapping noise before since it had open headers but now that it has exhaust we can hear it. Will this cause problems down the road or even right now?

Wow, how'd it get a dent in it in the first place?

Anyhow... you're pulling the pan so the oil is coming out. Just put a new filter on it. Shouldn't cause any problems if you didn't get a bunch of metal in the engine.

well we had the motor in and out of my s10 about 6 or 7 times. Im sure the pan hit something one of those times. We were gonna change the oil tomorrow anyway so there should be no problem. but i dont have anything major to worry about here do i like the motor getting out of wack?

"Out of wack"

No, you should be fine. Always a good idea to turn an engine over by hand and listen before firing it off with the starter. Helps in catching these "wacky" problems before they do any damage. Live and learn.

Good luck.

If it is a rod hitting the pan, that rod bearing will fail prematurely. How fast is anyone's guess. You are also effecting the balance of the crank and the effects of that are unknown. Depending on where the dent is you could try one of those suction cup dent pullers.
