Rod bearing

Finally got around to pulling the motor out because I had what seemed like rod knock. I only had enough time to pull #1 apart, and this is what I found:

if you rub your nail across it you can feel all the grooves.

sure didn't look right to me does this have any indication of what was happening? lack of oil?
eh, i'm not too knowledgeable when it comes to something like this

could a bearing in this condition cause rod knock? i'll pull all the others out later on and check them out too.

just for reference, I guess, here is a video of when I first noticed it.

yes, but you will likely find one spun, look for a black rod cap

I would also agree that you'll most like find one that is spun. Doesn't this motor have very few miles on it, or was that someone else I'm thinking of?

Plenty of trash went through the top bearing. The other has trash and wear.
Is this a BUILT engine?

yep only had about 500 miles on it. though I was spinning it kinda high...probably more than I should

wonder what kind of trash. only thing I can really think of is shavings from the heads or intake being ported that didn't get cleaned out enough.

Whatever it was, it should been pretty apparent in your oil.

There is all kinds of trash that can get caught in the oil galleys after machine work, even if it has been vated.
This is why they make the long round wire brushes. A fresh block from the machine shop takes me about 4-6 hours to clean and install all the plugs.

Porting won't put trash in the oil.

If it's right RPM's won't matter. Ya can spin it till a rod or something else breaks and should not effect the brgs if ya got OP.
Ya need to double check your clearances also and prime the system before cranking.

Hmmm..well the oil level sensor broke while in the pan a while ago(not sure how that happened) Guess that could have been a part of it too? Well here was metal in the oil, but I assumed it was from the bearings

well I got around to taking the rest of the rods out, and well...i'm pretty sure I found the reason for the knock.

Number 6 rod:

You can see here where the rod and piston weres making contact with the crankshaft counter weight.

yeah I might turn into something cool

could this have been caused from revving it too high??

At least it didn't make contact with the block. I may just be able to get a stroker kit. I'll have the block inspected and cleaned.
