Are rockers loose?

Ok, I have a gm847 cam, comp R lifters, comp 1.6 pro magnum NSA rockers, LE2 heads.

My lifters are really audiable from outside the car, almost louder than my exhaust depending where you are standing... I hear that this setup is loud anyhow... It doesnt reall tick, it is more of a combustion ticking, hydraulic system sound. Hard to explain.

The car doesnt stumble and it runs excellent.... The rockers just seem to be really loud to me. You can defiantly here the rockers without lifting the hood when you are near the nose of the car.

When you are towards the rear of the car you can still defiantly hear the rockers, they just arent as loud.

I adjusted my rockers by setting the number 1 piston to TDC when I did my engine build and adjusted each rocker via the one cylinder at a time method.

I made sure that the pushrod wasnt able to freely spin anymore, but if I tried to spin it I could still spin the pushrod. I then tightened the nut another 1/4 turn (flat)? I think thats what its called.

What can happen if my rockers are too loose? I tightened the hex head inside the nut as well, so I know they will not work their way loose, just curious if having them loose is a horribly bad thing?

*Edit*

By the way, my exhaust is super quite IMO. I have hooker headers, going through a hooker Y pipe and finally to one single dynomax muffler. You can bearly hear the car at idle, but once I get on the gas it sounds like a muscle car. So perhaps since my exhaust is so quite I am paraniod?

I can get a video clip if needed.

I have stock height valve covers, they are just crome... Could the tapping I am hearing be from the rockers tapping the top of the valve covers? I am almost 100% sure I did the rocker adjustment correct.

Could be hitting the supports inside the VC, if you haven't already, try this next time you have the valve covers off........

Re: Are rockers loose?

Thanks for the link, however I already went ahead and modified them.

I am having a local fbody owner come over tomorrow and help me adjust my rockers.. They defiantly have to be loose because thats about all I can hear in the cab of my car.

Re: Are rockers loose?

i highly doubt they are loose. With the comp r lifters, i only put 1/16 - 1/8 preload on them.
