Rocker adjustment & idle quality issues
My step-son was told my 7/16 1.6 Pro-Mags were a little loud, so going by his manual he readusted them--cant tell you how much--since then my car idles a little rougher, surges a little at stops lights sometimes, almost dies other times--no hesitation when the gas is given, just a idle problem--I know the answer is possibly obvious, but the car in the past has thrown a code for a o2 sensor, but the light will go back out--so should i get them readjusted or could it be another problem that just happen to show up by chance and its not a rocker problem==Thanks Dwayne
Yep, loosen the rockers and I'll bet your problem's solved. It doesn't cost anything unless you're paying someone to do it
Roller rockers are naturally a little noisier than their stock counterparts. Unless it is excessive I wouldn't let it bother you.
It could be another problem but it's best to start with the obvious.

You could try that, but since you don't know how much they were tightened to begin with, would that quarter turn be backing down to a half turn? Impossible to say.
The most accurate way to adjust them is with the engine fully warmed up and running.
After it's warmed up, turn off the car. Loosen all the bolts on a valve cover, start the car back up. Once the idle settles down, remove the valve cover. Believe it or not, you really won't get much oil at all.
Back off a rocker until you get a bit of clacking, slowly take it back down until it quiets down, then another half, quarter, or 3/8's, or whatever you feel is the right amount. This seems to vary from one person to another, but the majority go with a half (that's what I did too). Lock it, move on to the next.
One of those mechanic's stethascopes will help so you can concentrate on a specific rocker. They're only a few bucks at Autozone, etc.
I believe Shoebox has a guide or two on this at his site. Just do a search on his user name..
Good luck!
