Roasting the tires?

How bad is roasting the tires on different aspects of te car? clutch, transmission, etc... Will dropping the clutch a lot destroy your clutch pretty quickly?

Actually, No. Dropping the clutch has no affect on the clutch. The car is spinning and the clutch isn't slipping at all. Now, if you are constantly trying to "throttle" the roasting of your tires with your clutch then, yeah, you'll have problems. But, just dropping the clutch should actually make the clutch live longer

theoretically. I dont know of anyone that can drop it fast enough to go from depressed to grabbing without a slipping, and at high rpms this is much worse than driving normally. But i suppose if you flat out dump it opposed to slipping off the line its better. I was comparing it to normal driving. The affects on the rest of the car arent great. Dropping your clutch will kill your tranny/rear after a while.

Everytime you take off under normal driving conditions you are going to slip the clutch a little. That is normal. I wasn't talking about absolutely zero affect on the clutch... just that doing a clutch dump for a burnout isn't going to affect the clutch that much Now, the engine, tranny, etc. might be another story

Do you think it's possible to get a good smoke show and lay a decent patch in reletively stock car without damaging the clutch a little?

In order to get the desired effect I've had to put my clutch through some punishment in the past.

It seems like it doesn't have enough power to keep the tires spinning.......

If I just drop the clutch - it hooks nearly immediatly.

Could be my tires are too sticky.......

I disagree. Especially if he has a stock clutch. Stock clutches WILL slip with a clutch dump. Now a street twin on the other hand....

I think so. Your car should have enough power that all you need to do is drop the clutch, move foot to brake, and throttle gas pedal and brake to give you the desired results.

If you want to waste nearly $600 worth of rubber in a matter of 3 minutes, then you do this...

And don't tell me it's stupid. I am smart enough to know that it IS!

You think it'll slip more than just a normal takeoff?

I've got an M6, and I was wondering if anyone has ever side stepped the clutch....just revved the car and slid your foot off the side of the pedal instead of letting it out...

Think about it, you are putting ~350ft-lbs of torque on the flywheel, and expecting this one disc stock cltuch to grab that and not slip? Not gonna happen.

You are going to do at least some damage to the clutch if you want some smoke, unless you let the clutch out all the way and just nail it. Even then if you have enough power the clutch may slip even though it is fully engaged.

My stock clutch will sit and roast using linelock on street tires with some decent tread on them. That is just easing into the throttle/clutch as well, not a huge clutch dump like justens wants to do.

Brent, you're a nut.

BTW, did you every dyno the car with the supercharger? It's probably on your website, but I'm being lazy at the moment.
