Roadmaster to Camaro

I have 94 v6 5spped car however im in the process of buying an Lt1 out of a 94 roadmaster. Getting engine, ecm and harness for $150! Was running but needs new optispark dist I think? Engine would be rebuilt and put into a 94 v6 car. Anything that is different from this Lt1 and camaro lt1? Ive heard steel head vs Alum? Any other swap tips? Ive read that guages, coilsprings, radiator, tranny, rearend...maybe more need swapped. Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance

The Roadmaster has cast IRON heads. They flow better than the aluminum heads, but weigh more, have different heat transfer characteristics. The cams are different between the F-Body and the Roadmaster, since the Buick needs more low end torque to get the huge mass moving. I would suspect that front accessoriry bracket and all the accessories will be arranged different.

The F-Body V8 K-member is different than the V6 K-member. You would have to check that the oil pan on the Roadmaster will work on the F-Body. This guy knows more about the SS/Roadmaster/Fleetwood engines than anyone else that I am aware of:

be sure the engine is a real Lt1 cause the L99 4.3L v8 looks identical!

any thought on keeping the iron heads? possibly having them ported? also any feedback on aftermarket kmembers (rksport-$425/$460AJE) versus a $100 for a stocker from TA creations. Looking at a Z gauge cluster 2mor off craigslist for $15 to officially get the project started.

Which was only available in the Caprice, the Roady got the LT1 standard.

The iron heads are pretty good for stock heads, for real performance use the pressed studs and limited retainer to seal clearance are negatives that cost money to address. Going to want to keep lift limited to about .530 and at that double check pushrod slot clearance.
Several guys who had them heavily ported later had them crack.

IMO keep them for now and when you plan the next round of mods start with the early LT1 aluminum heads as those are the best for serious port work.

I should have said Caprice SEDAN only, even the Caprice wagon had the LT1 standard, as did the Fleetwood.

Long as we are on that subject some folks thing that a police package car means LT1 and that is wrong or that you could not get one in a civilian car, the L99 was standard and the LT1 optional on all 94-6 Caprice sedans civilian or 9C1(police option code). If a 94-96 Caprice has a mechanical fan that is a tow package option and a good indication of an LT1.

a good set of heads actually arent that bad in price considering what you will get out of them, I contemplated just buying this set because I had 3 exhaust bolts broken off in one of my heads and it was a pita getting a machine shop that would get them out for under $80.

I think Ive seen even cheaper ones ($300) if you want cast iron but that kinda defeats the purpose.

Why is it that people can not grasp those are wrong for a NA stock shortblock, even TrickFlow's own description makes completely different recommendations.

Yopu use them as cast on small cubes with stock pistons and you will have a weak engine.
Ported GM aluminum heads are the best choice for most of us.
