before I tear down the engine again I'm trying to look at all my options. the motor only has 500 miles on it but I have bad rod knock. so obviously ill need to replace all bearings and what ever is damaged. assuming that the crank is gonna be screwed and only one rod is knocking, would I be safe just replacing that one rod( or however many may be messed up) with the same ones as well as replace the crank and still re-use whatever rods are good and the pistons? is it possible to do this without any more block work being done? I'm trying to do it for less than 1000. would love to get a 383 from victory racing but I can't afford that right now because I'm saving for a ring

 

Yes---saving for a ring is risky. Run for your life. Do not stop or look back. JMHO

If we can't talk you out of it----at least set up your gift registration with some aftermarket vendors. Nothin' says congratulations like a nice cam or some cnc'd heads, headers, etc.

You might as well take advantage of this time to get what you want, because it may be the last time for a loooooooong time. JMHO

 

buy your parts new and get the ring on ebay

nah...you should be fine just replacing the one rod...although you'll need it re-balanced. also, you could have the crank fixed for less than half the cost of a new one.

Hope I can remember which rods I have...actually bought this stuff a long time ago and cant remember part numbers or anything... think the part numbers would be stamped on it? what are the chances the block would need any work with just under 500 miles since it was bored, cleaned, and all that fun junk?

500 miles.... the rings really didnt have too much time to seat. The block should be fine.

I would go with the 383 from VRE ... No wait ... I did go with the 383 from VRE The GF was cool with waiting for a few more months
