rim width

ok before i get yelled at for not doing a search i did and they all talk about different rims than the stock.

i need new tires and am not changing my rims, yet. how wide are the original equipment rims on a TA that came with 245 tires? is it 8 or 8.5 inches?

and on another note what tire size do you guys recommend for those rims? i know wider isn't always better.

i will be using the tires for everything, snow rain dry hard cornering and drag racing on the street and the track. so any suggestions on what tires to get would be great.

right now i am looking at goodyear eagle f1 gs-d3's but i can be swayed any wich way. i have on thier now toyo proxy f4z, and they are the absolute worst tires i have ever had on anything. so i learned my mistake and am going to ask everyone here what i should get.

The stock wheel size is 16 x 8. The proper tire choices you have are: 245 50 16 or 255 50 16

My recommendation:

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Compar...stone&x=15&y=9

Great for everything you mention but snow. here is a opinion quoted from Tireracks site....

"These are great tires. Awesome in dry and wet conditions. I drive fast and hard and these tires are always glued to the road. These tires are amazing in rainy conditions. They have very stable sidewalls, so they dont feel swashy into a hard turn. The only bad thing about them is they are terrible in the snow. I am somewhat nuts, so I can get by with them. But I wouldnt recomend these as an all season tire. Otherwise I am convinced they are the best summer tire out there.

Back when I had my 3rd gen with 16x8's I ran 255/50's all the way around.

The 255 is only 3/8" wider than the 245, so I see no sense in running a 255 on back and a 245 in front when you can just run the 255 all the way around and still be able to rotate front to back.

ok thanks for the idea. i got a look at tire rack and they have some good opinion sections. it looks like the Firestone Firehawk sz50ep and the goodyear eagle f1 gs-d3's both get really good reviews. wich ones do you guys recommend

My personal favorite tires of choice are the BF Goodrich G-Force TA-KD and the Michelin Pilot Sport.

Several years ago, when the SZ50 first came out I bought a set. At the time the 255/50-16's ran me about $850. I don't know what they cost now. Those were great tires, but I made the mistake of taking them to the strip. After about 5 runs, they were toast.
