Rich and now lean?

I'm still trying to work out the bugs after installing the valve train listed in my sig. First, it was running really rich. Found out that two injectors had become stuck open after sitting on my bench for a month. I installed a set of Venom 24# injectors. After changing the oil and burning up the remaining fuel in the manifold and cylinders, it was running ok when I would first start it then, (I'm guessing) when it went into open loop, it was throwing DTC 0300(Missfire detected). I only drove it about 20 miles today and it seems to be running worse.
I just pulled a couple plugs and now it looks to be running very lean. Here's a pic.

When I got the Venom injectors, I wondered if the blue tip on the manifold side needed to be removed. It doesn't look like the hole is big enough compared to the stock ones. I don't think this is the case though. I know I need to get the PCM tuned, but it should run decent for now shouldn't it?

I need some help here, I've spent way too much money and time on this car to not be enjoying it right now.

I would have to say after looking at this chart:
http://www.importperformance.com/ven...Chevrolet.html

You have a can of worms there.

That chart is F'd up at the least. I notice 2 glaring problems. First, they don't even show an application for your vehicle???????? Second, they say the 93 uses the same injector as the 94. When we all know that is not the case.

Dump those pieces of S@#T and go back to a good stock set.

Speedy, you were right. Those POS Venom injectors were the problem.
She runs great now. Thanks.

Just for the record, the blue tip needs to stay. That's because the Venom appears to be a "pintle" style injector, which only needs that tiny opening to produce a spray pattern. The stock injectors are "ball and seat", and have a large diameter disc with 6 holes in it that produces the spray pattern, requiring the larger diameter opening.

And, to clarify, when the engine warms up, the PCM goes into closed loop.

Thanks Fred. I figured the blue tip stays on. Any idea why those injectors made it run so lean?

injectors

thought i would just throw my 2 cents in here. i bought a set of the venom injectors and they gave me trouble from the word go. the blue caps came off all but three and im guessing they either burned or are still in the intake manifold somewhere???? i changed over to the racetronix and have never had a problem since. well good luck.

The Venom advertising makes no sense at all... a prime example of the unadulterated BS that passes as knowledge....
VENOM Stage I Fuel Injector

This is an off the shelf hi-performance fuel injector which is an exact fit, OEM design injector.

Flow rate is increased up to 10% in order to maximize horsepower increase, while minimizing against too rich fuel mixture. Idle is maintained, while increasing overall performance throughout the RPM range.

VENOM Stage II Fuel Injector

OEM exact fit injector with matched specific flow rates balanced to required horsepower gains.
First they suggest that their Stage I injectors will somehow magically increase HP by flowing up to 10% more than "something" (stock??). But... how could that happen, unless the stock injectors are too small, and starving the engine for fuel. And, they fail to mention the need for a tune, since adding an injector to an LT1 that already runs way too rich at WOT with stock programming will simply get worse running an oversize injector without a tune.

They claim both Stages are "OEM design" and "OEM exact fit", but one quick glance ar the photo above clearly shows that they are not even the same type of injector as the OEM LT1's were equipped with.

Looks like a brand to avoid like the plague.

As far as running lean.... how well did the O-rings fit into the holes in the intake manifold?

The O-rings fit tight Fred. I used a little oil for assembly. I'm taking them back to Summit for a refund. I agree that this is a brand to avoid. You can be sure I will let Summit know how I feel about them selling them to me.
