Revving to 6700rpm

I shift at 6700rpm because my cam builds power to 6200 rpm.

Since I'm a 93 I use a single chain.

Should I have converted over to the double?

I know I have revved to 6700 plenty of times on accident with a single roller timing chain.

I think the only way to find out is to take the cover off and check the slack on the drive side of the chain. From what I hear you should change to a double with any cam install but I don't want to go through replacing all those good parts.

If you decide to stay with a single chain I hear there are some new ones out for the LT1 that are pretty strong. I belive a few were talked about on sdf.mogmhp.com

I was orginally planning on staying with the stock chain, but after seeing the amount of slack I had the last two times I had the engine apart, I decided to go double roller this time. (My crank sproket also showed some nicks this time on the lead side.)

My previous setup was with a comp 305 that I spun to 6000-6200. This time I'm looking at 6500-6600 with a different cam.

The stock single will probably work, I just didnt feel comfortable going back with it again. I also looked at the aftermarket single replacements and the only one I saw compatible with the non-vented opti was the lunati piece. But, neither Lunati nor Summit could give me any real info on it, other than it was a linked belt chain (like the stock piece) and not a single roller. Personally, I didnt want to be the test case for lunati either, since the chain set hasnt been out long enough to get some real world feedback. For all I know, the stock piece is stronger <<shrug>>

Anyway, I ended up going through the vented opti converstion, electric water pump, and double roller setup. My wallet's a little lighter, but I've got a little more piece of mind.
