Rev limiter at wrong RPM?
Rev limiter at wrong RPM?
One of my friends has a 95 Z, with the only mod being a flowmaster cat back. I saw him for the first time in a while last night and gave me a ride cause he said it had a problem. When he gets on it hard it is like it hits the rev limiter at about 4500 rpm, it bounces off it right there every time. It is so bad he actually lost a race to a 98 neon with only a fart can! Any ideas why it would hit the limiter at that low of an rpm, isnt the stock limiter more around 5500?
Need more details, Is it actually "Bouncing" like it would if he were to hit the limiter normally? Or is it fading off and having no power @4500 rpm. Does it have lots of power right up to 4500?
If it is bouncing and has gobs of power right up to that point it does sound like a really low rev limit is set. But its' set in the computer and if its worked fine before and just developed this problem recently, and he hasnt reprogrammed the computer, then you can rule the rev limiter out. Things dont magically change in the computer like that
If its falling on its face after 4500 rpm, but still does climb, then he's probably got a bad coil, a fuel problem, or a slightly clogged cat.

No it is like it is hitting the rev limiter, hitting then going down then right back up, the nah nah nah sound you get of a rev limiter. He said it has done it for quite awhile but he has only had the car for about 3 months.
