To rev kit or not to rev kit?

SO this is my setup...

LE2 heads
918 Springs w/ steel retainers
Comp-R lifers, 1.6 Pro mags, chromoly prods
383 (scat 9000 crank, scat 6" I beams, KB dished pistons)
All the fun boltons
Cam yet to be decided....

Im still debating on wether i should go with a BIG cam (847+, ~240 intake) and spin it high or stay low with a TQ monster.

If I decide to go big, should I go with a rev kit, or could my valvetrain handle it w/o a rev kit; and what kinda rev kit to buy. I know ISKY sells a pretty cheap rev kit.

Thanks,
Stu

Re: To rev kit or not to rev kit?

I would go with the big cam and the rev kit(but i would do a search because i think they are harder on valvetrain components) a torque monster would just be hard to hook up. When the power is in the upper rpms traction is not as much of a problem... unfortunanitly it is still a problem. Just rambling maybe someone smart will chime in.

well i already have the beehive springs. Wondering if that would be enough to handle a big lift/duration cam up high w/o a rev kit.

I think im gonna stay under 6300 for the 383 and go with a moderate cam (239/245) for the time being and forget the rev kit. The comp-rs should be fine.

i don't know man, it's really nice to know that if you happen to miss a shift with your thumping (prolly expensive) 383 and the motor accidentally spins to like 6800, that you won't break anything. Although, you did already splurge on the beehive springs (which is what i am gonna do when i build my 383) so i am sure you could spin to 6500+ and still be fine. I would just like to sleep well at night knowing that motor is tough as hell and can hanlde anything.

just my .02
