Assuming you have stock LT1 heads

Here it is again for the 100th time.............

If you want to go with 7 degree hardwarde:

787-16 retainers
648-16 locks
stock or LT4 spring seats

If you want to go with 10 degree hardware (super locks):

795-16 steel retainers, or
794-16 titanium retainers
611-16 locks (standard), or
614-16 locks (+.050)
4705-16 spring seats

Using the 7 degree hardware and stock spring seats you
should end up with an installed height close to 1.78". With
10 degree hardware, 4705-16 spring seats, and the +.050
super locks you should see a 1.75" installed height.

Many have used the stock or LT4 spring seats with these
springs. I personally don't like the way the springs sit on the
spring seat. I have the 10 degree setup on mine.

Sorry, I searched for it and I saw posts about the 10 degree hardware but I never saw any comp part numbers. Thanks for the help.

can someone please explain this to me as i'm kinda of a noob to the retainers and seat things. I'm in the process of installing a GM847 and am using the 918 springs as well. What does the degree mean changing it from 7 to 10, is there any advantages or disadvantages.

7/10 degree locks

The main difference is strength. The Comp super locks are 10* whereas
the stock locks (both Comp, GM and others) are 7*. You need to look at
them side by side and it will be obvious why they are stronger. The main
reason to use the Comp 10* super locks is that they are available in +.050"
which helps achieve a taller installed height when you use the 4705-16 seats.

For most stock or mild performance engines the 7* locks are just fine. If
you are planning on using beehive springs I suggest you do not use the
stock spring seats. This is where the +.050" super locks come in handy.

Call trickflow and ask. It would depend on the valve guides I believe among some other things.

Use the 4705-16 for anything, it's the only spring locator out there for the springs.

If you haven't already, now is the time to up grade to 7/16 studs, guide plates, chromoly pushrods and NSA rockers.
When I switched to beehives I ran across and article were the tabs hit with the S/A Promags. I ran the 787-16 retainer and the stock lock to solve the problem. This also sets the spring around 1.740" reducing the springs lift capability
