Resurrecting the Z
Resurrecting the Z
My 94 Z28 has been sitting outside for about 3 years. Hasn't been running since then. I am getting ready to bring it home and get it going again. I am already planning on replacing the opti and drain all the gas out of it. What other things should I be worrying about to get it running again? Things to look out for.
Just need some brain storming.
Thanks!

Oil change, fuel filter, flush the coolant and brake fluid, tranny fluid and filter if it's an auto. Any gear oil might be ok, but couldn't hurt to change. Inspect all the seals and hoses for cracking or rotting. I'm going through the same thing. Mine has moved maybe 200 yards since it broke down in April of '07. A compression test couldn't hurt either. I'd also find a way to prime the oil system since it sounds like it's been a long time since the oil has circulated.
before I start my old truck after months of sitting, I just pull the valve covers and pour some oil over the valvetrain and try to make sure it starts 1st crank with starter fluid so that I don't keep cranking it on dry bearings.
may wanna pull the plugs and give a little squirt of oil into the cylinders, then turn it over by hand a couple revolutions to make sure everything it spinning free. along with all the other things mentioned. I would think your opti would be ok unless it got wet or coolant on it. sensors should be ok too, unless mice got to the wiring!!
Good Luck. Glad to hear another LTX will be back on the road.
