Results from Jet Hot LTs

For those who already know, I suck at the track. I rarely go and don't get much practice. Anyway, my best so far had been a 14.1 @ 99.2 mph. That was with: Moroso Cold Air, Corsa Catback, and Random Tech Y Pipe.

Well, in case you missed my thread, I added Jet Hot Longtube headers, all the goodies, SLP Firehawk Hood and airbox, and a OBD1 conversion ECU with a tune. I have a hooker Y pipe coming, but its not on yet, so I decided to run at the track (Moroso) here in WPB while I was here with just the open headers and turndowns.

Well, my first run was a 13.6 @ 103.2.... not bad at all considering my previous best.

I got a few crappy runs and then I ran a 13.4 @ 104.5 mph. Given my previous best, thats a hell of a jump. (The conditions were largely the same, though maybe 10 degrees cooler this time)

So I actually, so far, open headers blaring, probably triggering knock retard, gained 7 Tenths and over 5 mph over my previous best. I haven't even done the TB Bypass yet... I need to do that. Electric water pump maybe this winter too... I think I can run a 13.2 or better. The traction is there, I just need to learn to drive it. Both those runs were with about a 2.15 60'... not traction limited, driving limited. I just slipped the clutch out over the line. Maybe with a few tweaks I could even hit a 12.999

Anyway, I'm happy, lol.... Figured I'd share since I know a lot of members are in need of headers... GET JET HOT LTS!! (And a tune

)

Real nice gains but if you diced to sneeze on her, she'll drop into mid to high 11's.

Those are some excellent results, I gained (on my old 93) 2 tenths over shorties with longtubes.

I have basically the same setup as you do.
On Bridgestone Protenzas (regular old street radials) I turned a 13.31 with a mediocre launch.
The weather was awesome so with Drag radials and gears I may have been able to break in to the 12's but the ET on the time slip is the only one that counts...

I had the same kind of good luck with the Hooker Longtubes. I was running 13.6 @ 102 with the stock manifolds, and the next time out ran 13.0 @ 106 with my new longtubes. I got a best of 12.9 @ 106, so I picked up .6 or .7 and 4 mph with the hookers. Pretty nice bang for the buck in my opinion. I just wish I had done them a lot sooner. By the way...this was in an A4 with a stock stall.

Looks like a lot more than just Long-tubes were added. You are misleading by the title of your post.

There is no way to know how much you gained from the LT's alone.

Glad to see how much you gained from all the mods though.

Not really.. he replaced his cold air w/ a ram air hood setup.. no change/gain there...

And IMO a bolt on tune should be a must when adding headers to lean our the car some.

Were you running dial in?

I know for a fact I saw YATES88's blue T/A out there, and I assume that was you in the green Z with her.

I just wished my car had been somewhat washed, man, my car was filthy, and so were the wheels/brakes.

And I am in no way suggesting that everyone will gain .7 and 5mph with longtubes, but I think the majority of the gain here is from the LTs. I got a tune too, sure, but the major gain is the headers. I agree with Javier, a tune should be done, especially since I was OBD2 and went to OBD1 to avoid SES lights. I should gain even more I think once I get the Y pipe on and get a little low end back. I'm sure my BLMs are crazy too with one new and one old O2 sensor and open collectors.

Well, considering you changed your air intake, switched from OBDII to OBDI(which is worth 5-7 HP), plus a tune, plus the LT's, I would still say that it is very misleading to say that 0.7 tenths and 5 MPH from the LT's. The runs were also on different days, which makes it very hard compare. Heck, guys traps can change by 2 MPH at least from day to day.

I'm not TRYING to rain on your parade, but there is no way to tell what each mod did. I assume the LT's were the biggest portion of the gain, but the other changes ARE considerable.

The only way to know the gain would have been to dyno before and after.

Again, nice gains though! I'd be happy too.

Dan

What is your intention? To point out that this is not a science experiment with closely controlled independent variables? Of course not.

I'm not trying to make any claims about what just my longtubes added, did you read my post? I was clear about what all I added. The results are comprable, being at the same track in similar but not exactly identical conditions... what else can I add? I personally don't have the money to go dyno before and after. I have nothing to prove, but I'm just stating my experiences. Your mileage may vary, all rights reserved, not valid in Hawaii and Alaska, etc etc yada yada disclaimer disclaimer. These are the numbers and thats all I am trying to say. Its not empirical but it never is.
