resetting the pcm

Don't do it with the key on to avoid damaging the PCM due to voltage spikes.

I was at the track yesterday and during mid run, my SES light came on. So I'm gonna reset the PCM and see if it will clear. If not, I'll just get the code read and take it from there.

What fuse do you pull? I thought you had to disconnect the battery to reset the PCM

A few seconds is all it takes, but waiting about 15 seconds makes sure you don't repower the pcm too quickly.
Disconnecting the battery will also do it because it removes power to everything. The fuse is easier.
For us OBD I guys a split second will do it, I dont know the procedure for OBD II but there is a guide on www.projecttransam.com I believe.
ok, took my car to Auto Zone and got my code read.

The PCM has determined that a malfunction exists in the electrical circuit for the mass air flow or volume air flow sensor. This code points towards a possible wiring problem, IE : short to ground, short to power, or an open circuit.
does this has anything to do with the fact that it's hard to get the tranny into reverse. Someone told me that it could be the reverse lockout solenoid. So I'm not sure. Checked the MAF sensor and it was fine but not sure what the other one is.

It depends on the year of the car, but most are on the side of the dash and labeled PCM BATT except for 1995 where it is under the hood and just says PCM.

Will this activate the VATS system, as in will I need the VATS code for my car to run after I do this?
I still have an SES light that comes on only when I drive and goes off after a few secs of sitting at a stoplight, then back on again when I leave the stoplight. I don't know what's causing it and can't get the troublecode read since it doesn't stay on all the time, maybe the PCM reset will clear it out?

Run out and replace that sucker.
