replacing WP, should I do opti now?
My 93 Z has about 93,000 miles. I am replacing the waterpump. Should I do the opti now? I do not have any reason to beleive the opti is bad, at this point. I would appreciate your opintion.
Thanks
Thanks
If you are doing the work yourself, you can check the physical condition of the opti once you get the water pump off and make a judgement call... Among other things, you'll know what work is involved in getting to the opti and it may be worth the time/money to you to just replace it.
If you're paying someone else to do the labor, I'd go ahead and have them replace the opti while they are in there if it's still the original opti.
I replaced my original opti at about 120K miles when my water pump failed. As far as I could tell there was nothing wrong with the old one, but I was going to be in that neighborhood...
5 years later I don't regret that decision one bit.

If you have the extra cash, I'd replace it. Don't look for a cheaper version of the opti though, get a new original. Very easy to replace yourself with the water pump already off, might as well take care of it now.
Yes, make sure it's Delphi, or if you must go aftermarket, MSD. Although to be honest, the stock GM Delphi is going to take you all the way here and back for most applications when it comes to their opti.
