Replacing PCV valve (Rookie question)
Replacing PCV valve (Rookie question)
1995 Camaro Z28
I've noticed an oil leak coming from the front of my engine, it is a steady drip once the engine is hot and decreases as the engine is off and the pressure drops. I've had one mechanic say it's the timing valve gasket and another suggest it could just be a bad PCV valve. I'd like to try to replace the valve myself ($350 in A/C overhaul, EGR, plugs and wires repairs already this week) as it's a $2 part and couldn't hurt to try.
If y'all wouldn't mind, could you give me a description of where the valve is located and how I'd go about changing it out? Pictures would be appreciated
Thanks

Driver's side of the intake manifold.

The valve just pulls out of the thick rubber grommet on the manifold.

Re: Replacing PCV valve (Rookie question)
Thanks for your help. I got the new valve last night and removed the old valve from the engine and disconnected the 2 inch straight rubber hose from the PCV line. In the process of removing the old valve I noticed that this little bit of hose was worn and cracked and think I made it worse by pulling the old valve out of it. I reinstalled the new valve into the hose and replaced the valve into the engine and the the hose into the line but I'd like to replace that little bit of hose to make sure I have a good seal.
Long story short, what kind of hose should I look for to replace that little bit? Just a standard fuel line hose or something more heavy duty? Is it a 3/8" (.375 diameter)? Would it be a good idea to replace the grommet as well? I've seen several listed on Advance Auto's site put I'm not sure which matches "10240678 - PCV Grommet" from shoebox's site.

Re: Replacing PCV valve (Rookie question)
It has to be "vacuum" hose, intended to resist collapse under vacuum. That's why it's so thick. Fuel line is designed for pressure. Most auto parts stores will have rolls of various size vacuum hose. They just cut off what you need.
Shoebox lists the GM factory part number. Auto parts store should have an equivalent.
