Question Replacing Oil Pan Gasket on Canton Road Race Pan

Last winter on my 95' Trans Am I put on my Canton Road Race Pan and reused my Fel-Pro blue oil pan gasket that is a 1 peice. I used rtv on the 4 corners and it leaks above the starter, but mostly under the rear main seal. Is there any way to change it with the motor in the car? I have the trans out, flywheel off and heads off. Or anyone have some suggestions?

You just remove the engine mount bolts and jack-up the front of the engine far enough to get the pan off. Watch the wires, tubes, lines, etc. so you don't stretch and break something.

But being a 7qt pan, wont the oil pump pickup be a problem? Wouldnt I need alot of room to drop the pan being the depth of the pick up?

It's a bitch as I have the same pan and have done it twice. Do as stated above and you should be able to get it out, but it's gonna take some time and a few curse words. I ended up having to rotate the motor over a few times to get the rod bolts to clear when pulling it out. FYI - Pulling the tranny makes it much easier as you don't need as much clearance when pulling it back.

With the trans/bellhousing out it should be easy, just make sure you are able to rotate the motor while it's jacked up because you will have to get the front counterweight up in the block to pull it easier.

Alright, how did you guys lift the motor up? Engine hoist? or is there a easier way? Plugs are out so should rotate easy.

Block of wood and bottle jack under the crank pulley. Some guys will say don't do it but some will say it's fine. I've done it several times and zero issues.

Felpro with a dab/bead of "The Right Stuff" rtv on all 4 corners and the front and rear seal.

Awesome, might do this project tomorrow then. The motor mount bolt you speak of is the long one through the middle? Or where it bolts to the motor? Or kmember? Sorry for all the questions.

I used a jack and wood under the crank which is why I said make sure you are able to rotate the motor. You can't rotate the motor if you are lifting it at the hub. The motor mount through bolts are the ones to remove. I would remove all the pan bolts and lower the k-member a little to see if you need to rotate the crank to get the front counterwieght out of the way. Then jack it up at the crank hub to slide it out.

Forgot to mention that when I do it the car is on jackstands already with the front tires off the ground.

You can if once you lift the motor you place wood or shims under the motor mounts to keep it up while you remove the pan and rotate the motor over. As said done this several times and works like a charm. Make sure you get the blocks of wood in there securely as you don't want them slipping out while it is propped up.
