Replacing Fuel Filter

Hi all. I've got a 1997 Camaro Z28 LT1 360 M6, yatta yatta

Anyway, i want to replace the fuel filter, i have a new one and all, and i see where the old one was, but i was wondering what i should do, like where the fuel shut off is and all that, if someone could link me to a diagram or something along those lines. Basically i need direction for someone who has never done this before. Any help would be appretiated... my car is up on the stands as we speak so the sooner the better

There is a clamp that holds the filter it just pushes up and out of the frame you'll figure it out, very easy, then you'll need a couple open end wrenches for the FWD side and for the AFT end there are two little clips you can depress by hand that let disengages the line from the filter. I used a needlenose vise grip and gently closed it over the AFT rubber fuel line. A little gas will come out just keep some rags handy.

I've also heard that opening the gas cap will release some of the pressure in the tank so not as much gas comes out of the line. supposedly it comes out kinda quick for a few seconds, then just stops.

I'm going to be doing mine on my 96 camaro z28 and I was wondering if there are any aftermarket fuel filters available instead of stock. Maybe a clear (see-through) fuel filter? Let me know guys..Thanks

Yes, open the gas cap to relieve pressure. If you don't, and if it's warm out, gas will flow out quite abundantly. Once you relieve the pressure, gas will come out for a little bit and then stop.

I'd recommend the stock replacement filter, it's fine really and has the funky quick connect doomashawinky on the rear side, took me all of 5 minutes. I didn't know about the gas cap trick will keep that in mind next time.

I just replaced the Filter right now and I didnt realize how much gas came out. I even let open the gas cap. As for it pouring and stopping. LOL I didnt see any evidence of it trying to stop. It was wizzing pretty good. Anyhow, I went with the stock replacement. Took me a few minutes.
Since this was my first time...Uhh, next time I'm going to get more rags and point my head closer away. I was pulling that stupid connector real hard when it came off and I flinched or whatever. It started pouring and I got a nice big wiff of some toxic fumes and my hands covered.
