There is no camshaft position sender per say, you would need to replace the entire optispark distributor

I'm wondering how you came to the conclusion you need to change this.

Re: replacing camshaft position sensor

I've heard rumors of a replacement Opti optical cam position module being available. Where did you find one? And can we assume you flashed the codes by shorting the ALDL connector pins, and got DTC 16 and/or DTC36? In a post from about 6 months ago, you indicate you had DTC 16, and replaced the Opti? But then you also indicate in that thread a mechanic added an MAF sensor to your 93, and then it ws removed.

Re: replacing camshaft position sensor

I went through hell trying to replace tap the spork. Anywhere and fine for 6 months. Now I'm having the same problem. I'm wondering if it something else. Stop this park is brand new I bought from autozone. A guy i work with told me that would be the camshaft position sensor. And now I'm stuck in my work parking lot. It won't start at all but it makes the same noise.

ok let me try this again. I got the optispark replaced 6 months ago. I was thinking it could be something else? I used the one from pep boys. one of the guys I work with said it was the camshaft position sensor. ive been trying to figure out this problem since after I got it. im really short on cash right now and this is my only car.

Re: replacing camshaft position sensor

As noted in the second post, there is no separate cam position sensor. The person telling you that doesn't know LT1s. That function is done by the opti (or the "tap the spork" or "stop this park", LOL, gotta love auto type functions) .

Check again for trouble codes. You might be having an opti harness problem or the "new" opti may be failing. Remanufactured optis are hit and miss as far as quality goes. I don't recommend anything other than the GM/AC-Delco/Delphi unit.

ok so I had my car towed back to the house. the tow truck driver pulled a little cap off the engine and said there was no fuel getting to it. the fuel pump came on, so he suggested to check the pump relay.

Re: replacing camshaft position sensor

If you want to check fuel pressure, you will need a test gauge to do it. It's the only way to tell if pressure is ok. It is still a good idea to check for trouble codes (since you don't even need a scanner on a 1993).

Re: replacing camshaft position sensor

If and that's a big IF, the fuel pump actually did run, the relay is not in question.

Re: replacing camshaft position sensor

you could try and spray some starting fluid in the intake and see if she fires up for a second. if it does you most likely have a fuel issue.
