Replacing cam bearings

What's the procedure for replacing cam bearings? I've never done it before, but I have access to a SBC cam bearing removal/install tool. Does the engine have to be out of the car?

Unless you are a magician, it would be easier remove the engine from the car.
Once out the can be removed and re-installed with the specialized tool.

the crank and rods should be out for a proper install also you have to line up the holes with the cam bearings and the oil passages for cam lubrication...... with a bare block i installed mine in about 5 minutes

Yes, the engine will need to be out of the car. It's not hard to do with the correct tool. Just make sure you orient the oiling holes correctly.
