Question Replacement timing chain and gears

I need to replace my timing chain and gears. I would really like a double roller timing chain and gears. I am going to run an electric water pump... However, I have a 1994 opti setup and have to have something to support the dowel pin for the opti.

Does anybody know of any good deals on quality replacement setups for this?

Thanks!

I have been doing some research on this and found that alot of people with a non vented opti just get stock replacements. Not sure if thats you best bet, but Im sure others will let you know.

I don't think you can run a double roller with an older opti. You'll need to go to a vented opti. I believe the cam gear is splined for the opti. I didn't much pay attention when I tore mine apart. You'll also need a longer dowel pin to drive the newer opti.

Re: Replacement timing chain and gears

93 and 94 use a non vented opti that has a little splined gear that one end slides into the end of the cam sprocket and the other end into the opti. The 95-97 has a vented opti that uses the dowel pin coming out of the cam. The double roller cam gear dont have the splined hole therefore you have to go to the 95-97 vented opti. You also have to use a 95 timing cover because the obd2 computer uses a crank position sensor at the bottom. I guess you could use the 96-97 you will just have to plug the hole.

I believe Lunati makes one for the older opti's. Lun-93094 Is the part # from summit. It doesnt look tobe a double roller but I am sure its better than stock.

I would not be so sure. If you look closely at the picture, the cam gear has the stock GM stamping on it. Other people have said the same thing about it being the stock gear.
