Replace Cat with race muffler?

I did a search but it is kinda hard to narrow the search down when almost every post has the word race or muffler in it..... My friend told me to just replace my old 9 year old cat with a borla race muffler..... and then just take off the rest of the stock catback... I have a cutout on it right now and i figure if i do this then i will be losing the 80 lbs of the stock catback and gaining flow over the stock cat... Any suggestions or has anybody done this before?? Thanks.

i installed the 18" bullet on the end of my ypipe (flowtech longtubes/orp) and it sounded pretty freaking awesome. the sound was loud and aggressive.

the only problem i noticed was since it dumped right under the car, it reverberated (kindda like echoed off the ground and underbody) and the drone inside the car was annoying.

if you have the cutout already, just install it in place of the cat, and run the rest of your exhaust.

on a side note, right now i have my catback pipe running from that bullet back over the axle. i havnt hooked up a muffler yet so it ends just after the axle. that sounds awesome and that drone in the car is gone.

I installed a Dynomax 3" diameter 18" long bullet muffler in place of the cat with the Hooker cat-back. I had the exhaust place put in a flange off the Y-pipe. Then I had them make me an ORP with the muffler and another one with a 3" high-flow cat for inspection time. It takes about 20 minutes to swap them out.

Without the bullet, the exhaust was really loud and raspy, even through the Hooker. I guess 11.8:1 compression and a big cam will do that. With the bullet, it sounds really good. No raspiness and no popping on deceleration.

The 18" muffler may be listed as a 12". The actual muffler is 12" long, but the pipe on either end makes it 18" overall. It's a perfect fit in place of the cat.
