I have a 94LT1 6speed. I am installing a whole master,slave unit. I am having trouble removing the u bolt on the firewall. There is a serated hole on one side of the u bolt studs and it is keeping it from backing out. What did you all do, the other stud on the u bolt will push right out but the other one will no buge.

What I do, is either wiggle it, or go under the drivers side dash and punch it out gently.

 

I have been taping it and it it not really moving.

 

On my 1995 there was a thin "washer" on that stud that I think they use at the factory to keep the U bolt from falling out during assembly. It's between the firewall and the metal bracket, so you have to loosen the bracket enough to get behind it. I was able to "unscrew" the washer off the stud using my fingernails.

Not sure then, mine comes out really easy. Is there anything on a fourthgen blocking it? Just tap both sides and keep tapping them until it comes out. Just use a phillips screw driver and hammer.

 

I seem to rember the same "washer" that TW95Z is talking about. That and I also had to kind of force mine out. It wasnt impossible thou.

 

yea, I am going to try and unscrew that washer thanks guys.

 

That star washer got me too. Other than that, replacing the master or whole hydraulic setup is really easy.
