Removing Transmissions
Im taking the Auto out of my car and putting a T56 in. Does anyone know what i can do to reach two bolts on the bellhousing?and is there an easy where to get them off. I tried all types of wrenches with no luck. I had it on the bolt and that thing is pretty tightly on there. Anyone have suggestions.
On a side note, my pedal assembly has me concerned. Well not completely. i was just wondering, there are 2 wires next to the clutch pedal and blue and a yellow. They have both been cut and obviously my auto doesn't have these same plugs. Are these wires the ones that just make you require to hold the clutch in to start the car? Will i have a problem not having them connect or do i need to find some way to connect them>?

i got mine from the top with the engine in. it wasnt easy and i had to do it all by feel. i went to sears and picked up a 6 point 14 (i think it was 14 mm) open end box end wrench. the longest one i could find was just reachable from the top when it was on the bolt. i then fit a 27?? mm socket over the top of the open end. this was enough to reach just above the back of the engine and get the bolts off. good luck. that trans lowering thing sounds like a much better option.

Take the tranny crossmember out and lower the trans with your floor jack be careful of the oil pressure sending unit as it has a tendency to get broken off, ask me how I know.
Now get a monster extension or do what I did and put 4 or 5 together to reach those top bolts.

Somebody said they used a 14 mm. The bellhousing bolts are not metric though. Can't remember what size.
Put a jack under the tranny with a piece of wood and undo the tranny crossmember. Lower it down as far as it will go and get some long *** extensions with a swivel on the end. Put duct tape around the swivel to keep it from just flopping over. Put your socket on the end of the swivel and you should be able to pop it right off.
Note - When I take the top bolt out I have enough extensions so that the ratchet is past the tailshaft of the tranny.
