Removing power steering

I was wondering if anybody had done this before and what it is like to drive without it. My dad's old porsche dosn't have it, and I like the way that feels a lot more than the fbody steering does. But the time my serpentine belt broke, it was all I could do just to get the thing into the nearest parking lot. I figured it might just be because I was fighting the pressure of the pump. Anybody drive without it? I'm not too serious about this, just an idea that poped into my head out of nowhere.

Re: Removing power steering

a car setup for power steering don't work too good without it. A car without power steering is totally different

Re: Removing power steering

The proper way to do it is change to a manual steering rack such as the one offered by madman. That Porsche is much lighter on the nose and the front tires are narrower making it easier to steer manually.

Re: Removing power steering

Yeah, w/o power steering on a 4th gen., it is TOUGH to steer w/o having some speed. If you try to park w/o power steering, its HARD. Just keep the power steering.

Re: Removing power steering

Only power steering you need is all the power you can muster up . If you get a manual steering box, its not too bad.

Re: Removing power steering

Yeah, trying to park it when my belt broke was REAL hard. I'm not looking for the money/time involved in changing the boxes, just not worth it. Then I guess its a no for now.

Re: Removing power steering

I remember when doing my lt1 swap, I had to rig a custom power steering setup. I didn't want to and took it for a test drive with my hydraulic box and no P/S. I went 2 blcoks and everytime I tried to turn I was turning so hard the leather on my steering wheel was getting pulled, said screw this and just had some hoses made. Manually steering on a P/S setup is hard as hell.
