I was able to get my O2 socket on it and poke the ratchet handle between the y-pipe and chassis just enough where I could hit the end of the ratchet handle with a hammer to break the O2 free. There was no other way to grab it with any force.

I think some other people have done it from the top with a collection of extensions and swivels, but I did not have what I needed to do that.

I guess its because of my AS&M Y pipe but i had no problem with my pass side. My problem lyed in the driver side. I had to wait to change my oil because the oil filter was in the way and wouldnt allow it to unscrew all the way. Oh and dont forget to put antiseize on the new ones!!!!!!!!!!!

Takes like 10mins. to drop the starter, just take the two bolts out and wiggle it out, I didnt take the wires off thought, but I didnt let it hang very long either.

i took it out from the top. i took off the alternator so i would have more room. i ended up using 20 inches worth of extensions and an universal joint so i could try to get it from several angles. mine was in there pretty tight. i would have to say it is a pain in the *** to get out. i don't know if it would of been easier from the bottom. i don't know what kind of work is involved with putting the starter back on. i do know that those things are not really light. also, with new delco o2's, you are not supposed to put anti sieze on them. they come with it on the threads even if you can't tell.

With a stock Y pipe, it'll come out without taking the Y pipe off, but if you have an auto tranny, you'll need to push those lines to the side, there is a bracket that holds the lines to one of the oil pan bolts, and you'll have to position the starter in a certain way for it to slip out.
