removing oil pan with motor in car (in process)

I'm in the middle of pulling the stock oil pan off to fix a leak. All the bolts are loose, the starter is off, as are the oil cooler lines. I can't get the pan to come out for the life of me.

I'm running a PA k-member with the stock steering rack. I'm thinking about pulling the motor mount bolts and raising the motor, but I don't know if that will be enough.

Any suggestions

Jesse

I had to jack my engine up about 3" to get mine off, but that's with a factory k-member.

I've got the mounts loose and the motor is jacked up as high as it can go... still no luck. Getting pretty frusterated.

I'm actually debating putting the seal in with the pan loose. But I don't think I can get it clean enough not to leak again...

Are you sure it's the pan that leaking? I just went through this with my friend's TA. We put dye in the oil and used a black light and convinced ourselves that it was the pan. Turned out to be the timing chain cover gasket.

Did you remember to remove the oil level sender, in the side of the pan? It rests above the pump screen, and won't allow the pan to drop with it in.

Might need to rotate the crank a little?

I certainly hope it was the seal between the pan and the timing cover... I've got it back together.

I ended up lifting the motor as high as I could, cleaned all the surfaces, and then fanagled the gasket in place. I used RTV in most places and it certainly shouldn't leak now.

note: i dont' have the oil level sender any more. I may reinstall it since i'm back to using the stock pan, but i'm not sure. Also, I tried rotating the crank, but it didn't do any good. Possibly because I didn't rotate far enough, but I doubt it. I could blatently see it was hitting on the PA k-member.

Jesse, out
