Removing heads only

Does anyone have or know of any guides on removing LT1 heads only? I've been looking around and all I can find is cam/head guides. I looked at them, but I'm not doing anything with the cam and I get all confused reading them. I don't want to take off more than I have to for just replacing heads, but I have no idea what parts are being removed for cam related issues.
Thanks

info like this? Yeah, there is alot with both. http://web.camaross.com/forums/showt...+cylinder+head

I would recommend a Haynes or Chilton to help out also, the more info you have the better imo.

There's very little you DON"T have to take off the top to get the heads off. The A/C doesn't need to be touched, but the alternator, intake manifold, exhaust manifolds, all need to be taken off. The drivers side is easy, the passenger side is not.

Oh yeah, you just reminded me I have a Haynes manual in the garage somewhere. I'll take a look at that as well.
Thanks

I can't point you to a guide, but I can recommend that you take plenty of close up digital photos at various angles before you tear into all the components and plumbing that needs to be removed. It sure made it easier putting it all back together again for me. A pic is worth a thousand words!

Thanks for the tip. I haven't done that in the past and I end up wishing I had usually.

Its pretty strait forward doing it. Nothing too technical. It is just a pain getting the coolant crossover back on there. Try not to bend that tube otherwise its even more of a pain.

Ratchet wrenches are worth a million dollors when getting to those banjo bolts.

I'm getting the LE2 h/c package when I get money. I was just going to leave the cam for a shop to do. I thought I'd save a little dough and do the heads myself since, as mentioned above, they seem to be more straightforward. And I really wouldn't have any idea what I'm doing with timing and degreeing, or whatever else goes into the cam install.
