removing front swaybar.. pros/cons?

How long does it take, and what is involved?

I know that it'll get your car to lift its nose a bit higher, plant the rears, and get a better 60' time.. which I'm all down for.

But what are its downfalls? And how do you go about removing the front swaybar? I did a search, couldn't find too much info....

Well i have mine off and it is a easy job, just two end links and 4 bolts and it comes right out.I noticed a big difference in weight transfer but i also noticed that it does not handle turns nearly as well as before and you must keep that in mind when your driving on twisty roads.

i took mine off the car transfers real nice , pulls the front end up real hard. The downfall is the car handles like crap, going into a turn you have to fight the steering wheel. you must always pay attention going into a turn or it will get out of hand.

Glad I had mine in when our convoy of F bodies came across a tire on the bridge at 90mph. Or I'd be swimming with the fishes.

I remember reading in an old magizine where they removed it and it reduced their 60 ft by about a tenth. I can't remember exactly, it could have been more or less, but is definetly worth the effort. It is real easy to remove, but I would only do it during track runs, leave it on for the street. Just the other day, some guy came out from a street right in front of me, so I had to swerve and go around him in order to avoid hiting him head on. Had I not had my bar, I don't think I could have avoided him. If you live in a cold climate like me where the bolts are rusted, you might break them when trying to loosen them, happened with me, had to use a torque bar just to loosen them(endlinks), so I knew they would break. Not a big deal, since new bolts and rubber is cheap, around 12 bucks, so if that happens just upgrade to better bushings.

pros- better weight transfer. lightens up the front a little.

cons- you have to take exits a little slower than normal.

i drive my car every day and have had my bar off for about 4 months now with no problems. there is less control cornering without it in, but i dont really notice it. if you love flying around curves/exit ramps at insane speeds than you'll prolly be a little dissapointed. im not into that crap, so to me there's not that much difference.

thanks for the replies, there's some relaly good info there.

I guess I'll remove it and see if its worth it some make it sound like it'll handle like a boat.. some say its just a subtle difference.

I guess il'l find out.
