Removing engine

Hey guys. I'm trying to pull my engine today and am stuck. I'm going through the top, everything is disconnected, the torque converter is off the flywheel all 6 bellhousing bolts are off but the transmission won't disconect from the engine. There isn't anything holding it on. I tried picking the motor up a few times but it just pulls the transmission along with it. I tried prying the engine off the transmission but that didn't want to work either. This isn't the first time i pulled a motor but is there a possibility i'm missing something here?

Re: Removing engine

It's probably stuck on the 2 dowel pins that help to center the tranny into the block. The pins are between the first 2 bolts on each side of the motor. Put a jack under the tranny pan, then take a big bladed screwdriver and give a gentle pry between the motor and the tranny, it should break loose.

Re: Removing engine

I ended up pulling both the engine and transmission together. They came apart pretty easy once they were on the ground. You were right, it was stuck on the dowl pins, shot some PB blaster on it and rocked it back and forth and it finally broke loose.
It wasn't as hard as I thought it would be through the top. I already had the engine torn down pretty good because I had to send the heads and intake to Ai. My short block dosn't come from golen until the middle of febuarary so i have some time to clean up the engine bay and stuff. I can't wait to get this thing back together. Thanks for the help guys. I'll have some pictures when i get back from work later tonight if anyone is interested.

Re: Removing engine

Glad to hear you got it out okay. That's kinda funny how we're removing our engines on the same day. I'll have to see how the progress is on my drivetrain removal is going after I get off work in an hour. My friend's bro is doing the removal for me at his shop, thank God - I didn't have the time for it lol. Good luck with the 383 Chris!
