Removing the EGR

What are the pluses and minuses of removing the EGR valve for the motor? How exactly is this done and whatis required to do it? Is the EGR valve easy to get to? Reasons for asking these questions are because I'm always hearing of people removing them and want to know why. Isnt the purpose to recirculate some exhaust vapors into the intake?

basically it puts exhaust gases back into the cylinders to help burn everything
really, deleting it doesn't help much from what i've heard
but if you're ready to get every ounce of hp out of your engine, go for it
like joess97 said, try a search
i know you'll come up with way more than you want to know
