removing air pump , egr
i had someone tell me that removing your air pump and egr frees up exhaust for more hp. what is an air pump and egr? what do they do? will my ecm throw codes upon removal,? can my engine be damage upon removal? i am in an area where emmission control is not a prob. thanks for your imput
you wont get any real noticable gains. I did them just because i was bored and its useless stuff. I didnt get any codes after removal of the air pump and I just used a block off plate for the egr. The egr (exhaust gas recirculation) puts exhust back into the intake. it is located in the back of the intake manifold from a little tube out of your passenger side exhaust manifold. The air pump just warms up your cat convertor when you start the car to reduce emmisions. its only on for a couple min. It is located on the front of the engine block on the drivers side and has rubber tubes coming out of it, you can follow them to see where they connect and block off the hole left over in your intake, keep the wire covered that you disconnect. Im not sure if its supposed to set any codes but the SES light didnt come on for me. Hope this helps
