Ya,

Lift the motor out of the motor mounts as high as it will go. You can go about this two ways.
1. use a cherry picker and lift the engine
2. jack up on the bell housing of the transmission( harder to do, because when the pan comes out the jack is in the way;Not recomended)

After the engine is up, drop the k-member down, there are six bolts that hold it too the frame. DON"T take them out just loosen them down but leave two-three threads in. The k-member should drop down to the head of the bolts, if not pull it down with your body weight.

With the engine up and the k-member down you will have room to drop the pan. I know, i have done four other lt1 m6's , one was on Sunday,lol..

Thats all there is too it

Good luck

Re: removeing oil pan

The shopmanual has a procedure for this.

You have to undo the pan bolts and rotate the crank as you pull the pan back.

This moves the crank throw out of the way, kinda like unscrewing the pan from the engine.

Might be easier than lifting the engine.

*Note: I have not done this myself , so your mileage may vary.

Maybe on an auto, i here guys with a4's can do a pan drop with out the k-member work. But not the M6, I have tried dropping it with the k-member(my first time), I did also rotate the crank so the pan would clear, it was alot of work. All you have to do is take an 18mm socket and loosen the six bolts holding the k-member to the frame. The pan practily falls out with out any problems from the crank and rods.

Re: removeing oil pan

Remember to remove the low oil level sensor before lowering pan or it will break off on the oil pump pick up tube.
