removed oil cooler, gained 8 psi in oil pressure

My oil pressure didn't look right for some reason- 35 on idling and 40 at cruising 2k rpm's. There was too little of increase. So I removed the oil cooler. Cost me just $4- got 2 bolts from lowes and 2.5ft of 5/8 heater hose from advance auto parts. Also I bought a new twice bigger oil filter , could have put a 4 times bigger one but didn't want to spend $9. Results are amazing- my cruising oil pressure is now at ~48psi, looks that sometimes it hits 50 psi. The idle oil pressure didn't change at all. The only way to explain the result is that the oil cooler was constricting the oil flow by quit a bit a higher psi's. This was tested on 300-mile road trip. No change in temperatures well. Well worth mod, especially to those who put new engine in- there is no need to put that su*ker back in

not suprising. pushing oil through the lines and cooler has got to cost some pressure. most cars dont have an oil cooler so i cant see any reason it would effect anything. especially if your using synthetic oil and maintaining it properly. road racers on the other hand may want to keep the cooler.

I removed my oil cooler years ago, it's ineffective (poor design) and can cause the engine to be straved for oil if the small screen gets clogged. You can cap off the radiator and waterpump with rubber caps and hoses clamps; no need to run a line detween the 2.

WS6fromhell: Coolant runs through the lines of the oil cooler, not oil.

so to remove it cleanly, cap off the outlets on water pump and radiator. but what about the oil cooler adaptor itself? if removed is the threaded part the oil filter screws on under it? what would be needed to make it appear it never had a cooler? do all year lt1s have a cooler?.....

The cooler adapter is removed and a normal spin on adapter is put in it's place. The cooler was an option. Not sure if it was available on all years.

I just ran a 2.5 ft 5/8" hose from water pump straight to radiator, jus a five minute job. Yes, the oil filter still screws on perfectly, you can even fit a ph 273 (John Holmes of filters).
