Remove crank pulley for doing wires?

Space is tight on the passanger side of the opti. Looks like the crank pulley has to come off. Anyone else do this?

Plus I need a crimping tool to crimp the plug wires. Would any auto parts store have one like Auto Zone or Pep Boys? My friend has one and can do it but I'd like to have my own.

i've changed many a plug wire on LT1s. never had to mess with the crank pulley. but that opti sure is fun to get onto huh. try this:

1. cuss, grunt, and sweat profusely.

2. push really hard on the wire.

3. when you think you go it on right, take it back off to hear it snap out of place.

4. now you know you had it in there correctly in the first place.

5. kick yourself for taking the damn thing off.

6. repeat.

No need to take the balancer off, if I can get my fat hand in there then anyone can. The bottom one is the toughest but just move around in different positions, hit your head on various parts of the undercarriage and curse the man that invented the opti and vow to someday find and kill him (SLOWLY) and before you know it they will be on.

Yeah I believe I'll be doing a lot of cursing. At least I know the balancer doesnt need to come off. Yay.:blah:

Anyone know where to get the plug wire crimping tool at a local store? What about a guide to crimping wires?

Thanks again.

did my wires today, Drives side is cake, the passenger side is a different story, i pulled the alternator (for my header install) and tensioner (that gave me a good bit of room) and that gave me enough working space to do the job. I suppose not having manifolds in the way also helped!

I'll run up to Auto Zone tomorrow then. If it works, thats all that matters I guess.

I was also thinking of removing the tensioner while I was under the car this afternoon. I was leaning toward not doing it but will if I must.

Thanks guys.

The tensioner is easy to take off or put back on. Remove it if you think it will help, no biggie at all.
