removal of the hub on the crank infront of the front timing gear?

can i just use a puller to remove the 3 sided hub that is on the crank but behind the timing cover? we are putting the motor from a 95 into a 97 and the 95 didnt have this pickup hub on it.

If it is the reluctor ring you're talking about, it should have 4 ears on it. It should also pull off the crank very easily, no need for a puller.

I think hes talking about the hub. Sears sells a good puller for this, its what I always used.

Hard to tell....

It's "infront of the front timing gear", "but behind the timing cover." Sure sounds like the reluctor gear to me.

Let's try this, using Shoebox's stuff:

Is it part #45?

... or does it look like a flat disc with 4 lobes?

alright listen, alot of people ask this question.

listen to me lol i spent 2 ENTIRE days trying to get mine off, i almost resorted to pulling the motor.i used everything from hammers to torches to every puller i could find so listen close.

go to autozone,
rent the puller made by chrystler(sp)

i used many others, bent grade 8 bolts and stripped threads etc. use that one, it will come off no problem and use the longer of the 2 rods you get in the kit, youll understand what i mean when u look at it.

good luck

I think he's talking about the reluctor wheel. Is the computer going to be OBD2 or OBD1? If you are sticking with OBD2 then make sure you have the correct timing cover and crank key as well. It should just pull off with little effort, may need a screwdriver to pry a little bit but not much. If going OBD1 then you still need it as a spacer to use the shorter hub, unless you have a OBD1 hub. All this of course is assuming your 95 motor is OBD1.

Make sure you use the OBD2 timing cover as well for your CPS.
